Our Mission

April Showers Publishing is a micropublisher based in Dorset, England. We produce independently published books, zines and anthologies.

Since we were first founded in 2020, we have produced dozens of publications as well as supporting self-published and independent authors with editing and proofreading. After seeing vanity and hybrid publishers take advantage of authors again and again, we decided to start community outreach, culiminating in our Discord channel (which helps new writers avoid the pitfalls of the industry) and our self-publishing coaching and consultations.

Our Publications

If you are hoping to be published in our zines or anthologies, you may like to know a little more about what we like to publish.

April Showers Publishing has nature at its heart, inspired by the Dorset countryside and New Forest. Whilst we do not expect every piece we publish to be overtly related to nature, our editors are keen to spot writers who share our passion for it.

We encourage all styles and genres to be submitted to our publications, apart from horror. Anything that is deliberately intended to induce terror or psycological distress in the reader will not be considered or accepted. This does not mean that we shy away from difficult themes - dark fantasy, dystopia and writing with confronting messages have an integral place in our publications.

We are strictly anti-AI. This relates to both writing and artwork. Do not submit AI generated work to any of our publications.

Our Values

In recent years, the rise of generative AI has reignited our belief that art and creativity are fundamental parts of being human. It has become more important than ever for us to put this value at the forefront of our messaging when conversing with partners, customers and authors.

As a woman-owned company, feminism will always be a part of our business. We believe feminism is inclusive; it fights for equality for all. That includes all races of people, transgender people and non-binary people. Transphobic or bigoted work will not be considered for publication.

As the climate crisis advances, we are doing our bit as a small business to protect the environment. Our zines are produced by Print.Work, a UK-based printer who prioritise recycled and recyclable paper, packaging and materials. Our postage bags are compostable.
